I've never had any problems from my epi whatsoever, no headaches or pain where the needle was...nothing

The thing I am scared about is the pain medicine.....My mom got the shot an they hit a nerve in her back and she has problems with it ever since........btw.....if you think the birth of a 9 lb baby is bad my mom had 4 kids..............

That is the best advice I can give you. When I was pregnant with my son, I was bound and determined to go natural...absolutley no epi! Yeah...well, my labor was fast and intense. I caved fairly early and went with stadol (sp?). I thought that would be all. Then my son decided to be stubborn and come out as a "star gazer," facing the ceiling instead of the floor. That can be really painful, and you get a lot of back laobr. I finally, after talking with my nurse (who was a god send btw) and my husband. The epi was simple and it helped me relax enough that my son turned around on his own and we had an easy delivery.

Don't be afraid to take the epi. I was glad that I didn't get it too early on, though. That way, I was able to keep moving around. Just tell your doc that you want to be kept aware of when the window of opportunity is closing! Haha!
