Sorry, I know my mom isn't pregnant ( I am) but I have a question that I would like to ask to see if anyone knows why this is happening to her. She is 40 years old ( if it matters...she is on the pill ), her periods always come regularly and are always normal... last a week... mild to pretty heavy. Well, here lately (like since 2-3 months ago) she has been having a HEAVY period every 2 weeks. This time she got off her period and now a week and a half later she has started again although it was pretty light... she tried to take her birth control pill when she started this time to get it to quit... but it hasn't helped her period is actually starting to get heavier again. The blood is not red but a brown color. I am sorry if this is too much information... she was just worried about it and was talking to me about it and I knew you ladies usually know what is going on or can offer some advice. If you know anything about this please let me know! Thank you!!

The same thing happened to my mom but she just dealt with it for a few years until my dad and I urged her to go to the doctor because she started to constantly have her period. She was diagnosed with fibroid tumors and a few years later had to have a complete hysterectopy. They ended up taking out a 5 lb tumor. That had told her when they found them they was no need to be concerned and did a biopsy on what they removed and found they had cancerious cells. So long story short, urge your mom to go to the doctor and get it checked out.

You should "Encourage" your mom to speak to her primary care doc. I hope everything works out.

It sounds like it could be perimenopause. She should talk to her gyno to determine the reason.
