Hi everyone, I would really appreciate some advice,
this is/was? my first pregnacy. I came off the pill in
dec03 and my LMP was on 31 March04 but I didn't get a
positive test result until 31 May, I had been testing
quite often and had always got negative results. Dr said from
LMP that I was 13 weeks and did a u/s
yesterday, they told me I had miscarried and wanted to
do a d&c. After some calculations I
thought perhaphs I could be only 6/7 weeks, I told dr
I was worried about the dates he agreed to do
another scan in a weeks time. I feel confused I haven't had any
symptoms of a m/c no bleeding or cramps. The only
symptoms I have had thoughout the pregancy are tender
breasts & frequent urination, which I think I still
have but can't tell much at the moment as I just feel
so upset and exhausted from not sleeping last night.

My notes say "Intrauterine sac present, embryo absent,
bulky uterus containing irregular shaped sac, no fetal
part seen. u/s appearance suggests incomplete abortion
although molar changes cannot be excluded" I was in
too much shock to ask any questions at the time. Does
anyone have any experience of this and can a baby
still be ok if it is an "irregular shaped sac"? does
the fact that I have a "bulky uterus" mean that my
dates are probably right? Is it possible that they
missed the embryo as they were looking for a 13 week
one, I also didn't know that I was going to have a
scan so I did not have a full bladder. If I have m/c why were there no symptoms & how long does it take for it to leave the body naturally?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

That's about the same thing my notes said. It could be a blighted ovum, or you could just be too early to tell.

Mine, they said I was 15 weeks, and I KNOW I was 9! Don't let them rush you and trust your gut instincts. If you do the d&c before you're ready, it will bother you. I did mine because my doctor pushed me into it, and now I realize I wish I'd waited/got a second oppinion

To answer your question about it leaving the body naturally, you should never wait longer than a month, as you risk infection, and even cancer if it is a m/c and goes untreated. Also, if you did m/c and your body freaks out, you'll get this 'fake labor' sort of thing, my best friend went through that, she was in the ER like 6 times in one month, and she spent most of her time hunched over. Don't mean to worry you, I'm just telling you because I was with her a few of the times, and I couldn't stand seeing her like that!

Sorry to scare you. If you don't trust what your doctor is saying, GET A SECOND OPPINION SOON!

Good luck.

Even if you are only 6/7 weeks along, an ultrasound should still pick up the embryo. I had one done at 5 weeks due to previous m/c's and they could see and hear the tiny heartbeat along with the little embryo with no problem. However, if you are very uncomfortable with having a d&c done at this point, don't let your doctor bully you into it. Get a second opinion.
