Can anyone give advice on starting to feed cereal. When did you start, did they like it, how much do you give ,etc.

Thanks, :D :D

Did you ask your doctor when you went for her 4 month check-up. I satrted Lily at 4 months after the doctors approval because she was showing all the signs that she was ready.

Yeah, my doctor said go ahead however due to her language she is not easy to understand and her assistant was not in the room. So I don't know how to start and what are the signs she's ready?

Greatly appreciated

We knew Lily was ready when she started trying to grab our food and watching us and making a chewing motion. So we went to her 4 month check up and got the okay from the doc. Boy has it been an adventure! I kinda wish they could just drink from the bottle until one day they suddenly were old enough to just feed them self on thier own! :)

Oh a big girl. I don't know about anyone else but I like gerbers cereal. Start off with the oatmeal. The rice may bind her. And not anything fancy like the oatmeal banana. For her first time just straight baby oatmeal would be enough. And right on the side of the box it says how you should prepare it the first time. It will be rela watery but it's okay. For the first week or two just once a day will do it. I prefer at night cause it will keep them filled during the night and you get to catch more sleep. Then you can do it twice a day. As she gets older you can make it a bit thick a little at a time.

Really, you started with the oatmeal? I started with rice and Lily was fine. We just started Oatmeal this week. She likes it better than the rice. Guess it tastes better :)

Well, only cause the rice is so binding and when you start something you have to be on it for four days. So four days of rice could catch up with you. I mean every baby is different but I know Payton was so constipated we had to do the suppositories and I think Melisa's baby was constipated too.

They say you should start with rice because it's less likely to cause an allergy. We never really made it very runny. It just ran down his face and he prefered it thicker. I just give however much he will eat. They usually let you know. You can mix it with water/formula/breastmilk. It usually will take a bit for them to figure out how to eat so they push most of it back out. Now I just add it to his fruits & veggies to thicken them up followed by a bottle.

I think I made it runny for a day and then I made it thicker too. It was too hard for them to eat when it's so runny. Payton likes it thicker

Jake definately likes his cereal thicker. The rice made him contipated too. Even now I don't give him rice cereal because it binds him up every time...Oatmeal and Mixed Grain are what we use. I read that barley cereal is good for a first also.
