Does anyone know how long sperm can live in a body? My fiance says that conception happens right away, but I have heard that you can still concieve up to 48 hours after sex becuase the sperm can live in the body that long. Please let me know so that I can put his mind at ease since our conception date given by the doctor doesn't add up.

Hey,

I think you are right. Conception would not necessarily happen immediately after he ejaculates in you......the sperm can swim around all they want.......conception will happen when you release an egg that his sperm can fertilize.
So if the sperm is swimming around up there :D and there is no egg to fertilize than conception will not happen. But if you release an egg the next day for example....during ovulation, then the egg would be fertilized.

Sperm can live 3-5 days depending on the cervical fluid. An egg, however can only live 24 hours. So yes, fertalization can occur up to a few days after sex.
