Are cord blood stem cells different than other stem cells? If it turns out my child does need the cord blood, can I retrieve his/her's cord blood from the bank I donated to?

Stem cells from umbilical cord blood, stem cells are mainly hematopoietic (HSC). These cells are not specialized and blood-forming nature. This means hematopoietic stem cells (blood forming) can form heart tissue or lung tissue when exposed to appropriate conditions, the creation of a multitude of applications of stem cells to treat various ailments.

Lining the umbilical cord contains a gelatinous substance in support of the umbilical vein and arteries. This is known as Wharton's jelly. This is a very rich source of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC). These mesenchymal stem cells, has a large proliferative potential and ability to differentiate into different cell types. So, they play a fundamental role in the formation of nerves, muscles, fat, blood vessels, bones, cartilage, and a number of vital organs. This explains the wide range of mesenchymal stem cells from various degenerative diseases.
