Stem cells from umbilical cord blood, stem cells are mainly hematopoietic (HSC). These cells are not specialized and blood-forming nature. They usually give rise to hematopoietic cells such as red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (RBC), platelets, etc. Recent research shows that in appropriate circumstances, they have the ability to change their line, whether they are blood -training they can give rise to different tissues. Lining the umbilical cord contains a gelatinous substance in support of the umbilical vein and arteries. This is known as Wharton's jelly. This is a very rich source of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC). These mesenchymal stem cells, has a large proliferative potential and ability to differentiate into different cell types. So, they play a fundamental role in the formation of nerves, muscles, fat, blood vessels, bones, cartilage, and a number of vital organs. This explains the wide range of mesenchymal stem cells from various degenerative diseases.
