 Post subject: crib safety
PostPosted: Mon Jun 26, 2006 4:42 pm
Hi. My twelve-month-old flops around in his sleep so much he tends to get his limbs sticking out between the crib bars. Last night he actually got his leg stuck, not tightly enough to visibly bruise him, but enough that he couldn't pull it out on his own and I had to work on it for almost a whole minute to get it out. Has this happened to anyone here? Any hints on preventing it? Thanks.

Ive seen crib bumpers that are a thin mesh strip, so baby can't suffocate from it, but it will still prevent limbs getting stuck in the bars. Does your crib meet the newest standards? The rails cannot be any farther apart then 2 3/8 inches.

I checked my crib rails, but I'm not sure what the standards mean. I it means that the space between the rails can't be bigger that 2 3/8 ", it's ok, the space is 2 1/4" at the widest. If it means that the centers of the rails can't be more than 2 3/8", then it's too big. I purchased it new last year in the USA. Do the bumbers you mentioned cover the whole side of the crib? The instructions said not to use bumpers for older babies because they might become steps for climbing out.
Thanks

Well, your crib rails sound just fine. Do you think that your son would use the bumper as a step to get out? That is a concern, hmm. . .
