I'm a new mother and new to this site and very interested in joining some of the discussions, but first I have my own question that needs answering. My daughter, Emma, is 8 months old and is still taking 3 naps during the day. I'm starting to think she needs to cut one out because her last nap is starting between 4-4:30 which is pushing back her 7:30-8 bedtime. I wouldn't be concered but her night time sleeping seems to be affected, she's waking more and is starting to wake up earlier.

Her schedule now is

5-5:30 wake (sometimes later)
7:30-8 down for nap (anywhere from 45 min to 2 hours, more towards the less
12- 1 down for another nap of the the same type- i usually wake her up by 2 in anticipation of another nap
4ish down for another nap (30-45min)
7:30-8:30 bed time

Any help would be great,

Thanks

I have an 8 month old. He hasn't taken 3 naps in a day in a long time. We do two longer naps. Anywhere from 45 minutes to three hours.

you are both very lucky! naps are a matter of fitting in with your schedule ioif having 3 or 4 naps isn't a problem for you then who cares. You both sound like happy mum's so just keep doing what you are doing! Laughing

I heard somewhere that you should not allow your baby to sleep past 4 pm, I think it screws up their internal clock or something. Babies older than 6 months that is... Mabey thats why she is getting up so early, babies sleep better during the night if they nap better during the day...I don't know it sounds confusing but it works, I think I read it in "What to Expect the First Year" or something...

Hannah gets up around 8am. Has a nap around 11am, then one around 2pm, and goes to bed around 7pm. Sometimes she has only one nap, I think she is cutting one out...

I don't know, try to get Emma excited/interested in something and keep her up a bit longer every day, like going for a walk. Hannah is 9 1/2 months old and I know that going out in the stroller, or going to the store especially, keeps her up and alert. The scedule we have is awesome! I have tons of time at night for myself, and can sleep untill 8-9 am!

It will definately be hard, and it will take some time to switch her around, but it will be better for the both of you!!

Good Luck! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Very Happy just giving my 2 cents

Oh and I never made up Hannah's schedule or kept her up or basically used any of that advice I just gave b/c I never had to. LOL! Hannah did that all on her own. She's always been good like that. Jenn was just concerned about Emma's sleep, or lack thereof, so I tried to give ideas on how to get her into a schedule from what I have read from books, the internet, and other parents.

SORRY Tracey hun, I'm not trying to sound like a witch or anything! Laughing That's just in retrospect to my last post lol! Very Happy Wink

Don't stress it, I think you do very well to have such a cute baby and obviously such a happy one. With my first baby I was a bundle of nerves and spent most of my time stress over all matter of silly things. Laughing It takes alot to offend me so don't worry I think it's great that you took the time to respond to my message! Laughing Laughing

If it was me I'd cut out the 7:30 nap cause shes only been up two hours...

My daughter will be 2 in march

she wakes up at like 6:30 (sometimes earlier)

Has her first nap at 11, 12, 1 or 2 all depends on how tierd she is...

Then she goes to bed a little after 8
