| I can’t believe DreamWorks and Steven Spielberg produced a movie that so blatantly stereotypes Italian Americans as ignorant, racist, murderers, and clearly stereotypes African Americans and Latinos negatively. Check out this link www.boycottsharktale.com, and take some action as a parent![/url][/i] |

| You've got me curious! My daughter has been raving about it since the previews started! The link you've provided doesn't work, but I'd love to read more.. |

| The movie IS rated PG. That should have tipped you off that it wasn't necessarily for kids. |

I visited the website www.boycottsharktale.com (the original poster included a "comma" in the URL field), and I found the arguments quite compelling.
Just when we thought we had overcome all the narrow-mindedness in this country, Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks had to churn out a Finding Nemo knock-off packed with negative stereotypes of Italian-Americans, African-Americans, and Latinos. In a country as divided as ours is today, we don’t need media moguls such as Steven Spielberg filling our kids’ heads with racial and ethnic stereotypes. Even the most respected film critics have criticized this movie because of its stereotyping.
Although the previous poster noted that this movie is "PG" many parents with young children take them to these movies because the themes are innocuous enough that are acceptable. In the case of Shark Tale, the themes are not acceptable for small children. It is time for responsible parents to take action and tell Hollywood moguls that the well-being of our children is not for sale! |
