Hello ladies,

I'm new to this forum. I'm 28 weeks,1 day pregnant. I'm having scratchy sore throat and runny nose since 3 days. Can anyone please tell me whether this is viral or bacterial? If bacterial, is it going to affect the baby at this stage of pregnancy? Is antibiotics safe?
My PCP is not available for consultation and OB has advised just symptomatic treatment. Has anyone else had the same problem?
Any advise will be greatly appreciated

Shocked Surprised

nobody can be diagnosed online...

Ask your doctor before taking any medications, someone online could easily tell you it's ok to take something when it's really not...

Youre so concerned wether or not a sore throat is going to hurt your baby, but you'd trust strangers online to tell you what drugs to take? hmmm...

Yes, I will definitely not take any action without contacting my PCP. This discussion group was just an entry point for me to get a general idea if medications like anti biotics or tylenol have ever been curtailed from pregnant women or known to have caused harmful effects. If anybody has had similar if not identical symptoms like sore throat, cold during their pregnancy, it would also be good to know how they overcame it. Not that I would take these suggestions as final binding without contacting my PCP but it would at least make me feel good until I see my PCP tomorrow, if I learnt that pregnant women do encounter such concerns frequently and better even if I learnt that its a no-brainer issue. Of course symptoms might be similar but I might be having a different type of infection. Any suggestions welcome Smile
