Hi, I am usually just a lurker but now I have a question I would like ya'll opinions on. I just took a pregnancy test this morning and it came out positive (the line was really light). But my question is, about a week ago I caught a virus that was going around. I had fever for about 4 days, some times as high as 102 or 103 (before I would take my tylenol). I am scared that I might have hurt the baby from getting a fever like that. I was reading up on the internet to try to see if a high fever could do anything to the fetus, and it said that if the fever is right at the beginning of a pregnancy it could cause Neural Tube Defects. Now I am scared out of my mind. I will consult with my doctor, but I am waiting to go next week after I take another test and make sure that it is positive. I just wanted any opinions or comments that could possibly ease my fears.
Thanks
Maya

First of all, you are probably ok. I don't know much about the effect of a fever on a fetus that small, but I'm sure someone here can offer better in-site. Hey, plenty of women don't know they are pregnant until WELL into their first trimester. MANY healthy babies have been born to moms who casually drank and smoked through the first two months because they didn't know they were pregnant.
I''m sure you'll be fine, but do run it by your doctor
disclaimer: I am NOT advocating drinking or smoking while pregnant, just trying to make a point! |

Thank you for the reply. Even though I know no one can tell me what will happen, I still felt relieved to see that you think everything will be fine. I have been holding my breath (not really) since I posted hoping that someone would post something like that. Thank you very much Suzanne.
