: : Hi, I am hoping for some advice, My 9 year old daughter is having trouble concentrating at school. She is very smart but when it comes down to it she day dreams alot and her grades are starting to slip b/c of it. I do not think she has ADD. She just needs a little push. Any suggestions?? I welcome any. Thanks a bunch!!! : Hi there, : I am a high school teacher and despite the age difference (I teach older kids), I see this happening all the time. Usually kids are bored with the material being taught and start wondering in their own little world. Most of the time kids who are very smart get so bored since they grasp many concepts a lot faster than other kids, that they start to find other ways to entertain themselves and stop paying attention to the class. This hurts their grade!

: If there is nothing else bothering your little girl that might be the cause of her lack of attention; you might want to think about implementing the curriculum for her. Going beyond what the teacher is currently teaching so she has things to look forward to. Also enrolling her in activities such as music and dance might help as it gives them something extra to work on. This is only a suggestion and without really knowing the kid it is hard to say why she is not paying attention. Good Luck, Mary
