Does anyone have experience with a child with a Milk or Soy protein allergy that has caused anemia, neutropenia, and/or malabsorption? I have a 13 mo old baby that has had doctors and specialist perplexed for four months now. He has not gained weight for five months. He is mildly anemic, but no amount of iron changes that. He has been severely neutropenic (which means his absolute neutrophil count is less than 500 - neutrophils are the white blood cells that fight bacterial infection) for at least four months. He eats and nurses constantly, but does not gain weight, in fact lately he has been losing. They thought that he had leukemia, but a bone marrow aspirate showed that he did not. They have been looking at different syndromes, but he does not really match any of them. Their latest theory is the Milk/Soy Protein allergy. I really hope that this is the answer. If anyone has had a similar experience in whole or part, I would greatly appreciate hearing about it. I am hoping we are on the right track. Also, if you have any advice on what foods we can eat, it would also be appreciated. And if you have a substitute for chocolate you would be revered.
