Where to sleep? Newborn

I am due in April and we are trying to decide which type of sleeping environment is best for the newborn baby.
Bassinett? Crib? Cradle?
We are concerned with safety. Is it safe for a baby to sleep in a crib right from the Hospital? Is a bassinett a better transistion?
Does the baby need a sleeper positioner in a bassinett?
