Lisa, I have to open my big mouth here and say that I "disagree" w/Phil and Steve on this topic "per se". There alot of myths around still, I agree to that, but here are my thoughts,.... regarding pet dander, fur might be annoying or you might feel it "unclean" around the baby if the cat has especially long fur, and vacumming is not kept up with, but it IS the dander, not the fur, regarding litter, litter is dirty, obviously. Some cats are dirty cats, kicking litter everywhere and tracking it thru the house...it depends where you have the litter box, and how good you are about cleaning around it (ie. if you've got a house w/a basement, better than an apartment w/the kitty litter in the kitchen/bathroom), and finally, cats for the most part are curious (and sneaky), no I dont think that they "dont take the breath away", BUT they do jump in the crib and sleep in it and once they feel more comfortable, might like to snuggle w/the baby, and they are JEALOUS souls, especially if they are close to their mommy. They do swipe and bat at things their level, ie. the baby. For these last few reasons, unfortunately, I had to find my 2 first babies, a new home, shortly after the birth of my human child. LOL. I guess it really depends on the cat, and how much you know/trust it. Just another opinion.

I have heard that cats can be dangerous around babies for many reasons like their fine fur, toxic litter boxes, and more. Is this true? Is there a good website to read some facts about this topic? Thank you!
