Thomas is approx. 5½ month old, and meal times are becoming extremely messy! He is very keen on wanting to 'help' feed himself, and is constantly trying to grab the spoon or bowl out of my hands. He is happy if he can hold the bowl or the spoon with me, but this ends up with his fingers in the food which subsequently goes everywhere. I've also tried giving him a separate spoon to hold and this ends up just as messy as he tried to stick it either in the bowl or in his mouth at the same time as the full spoon is going in. Sometimes he gets so frustrated that suddenly a hand will swipe the bowl or spoon full of food and sent it all flying - usually all over Mummy :o)

I know he's probably a bit little to be feeding himself, but I wondered at what age did you start teaching baby to feed themselves, and how did you go about it.
