(Sorry so long!) Hi Carla. First let me say that you are doing a great job. Dealing with a baby who cries all the time can drive you nuts & while you may be frustrated at times you sound like you're hanging in there. The reason I'm writing you is I had the same problem with my daughter at that age. Our ped ruled out colic because, again, she was too old. I was also exclusively breastfeeding. A friend gave us a book called, "Secrets of the Baby Whisperer" & some of the points in the book helped us out tremendously. I definately don't think this book is the bible on child care, but it did help us. How often do you nurse your daughter? I was nursing mine every 1 1/2 hours. The book suggested that babies only need to eat every 2 1/2 - 3 hours & that usually if they are crying in-between that time, they are tired. The book also stated that babies who nurse too often may get more lactose-rich foremilk which can cause painful gas. I decided to try nursing her every 2 1/2 - 3 hours & it worked. When she cried 1 1/2 after feeding I would lay her down to sleep & she slept! The combination of plenty of naps (my little one still took about 4- 45 minute naps a day then) & less lactose-rich foremilk changed her into a different baby! Soon she was the "happiest" baby I'd ever seen. It was really a great turn around. She is almost 16 months old now & for the most part I can't remember her being as crabby as she was. I mean she was terrible! She also developed sleep problems at the same age & that same book helped us to figure them out. I really hope this helps you some. When I first heard the suggestion to nurse less frequently, I didn't like the idea, but it really worked for us. Let us know how things go.
