: Leah is only a month old, but she seems to have a sleeping pattern already. maybe it's just me, but it seems to us that she likes to sleep all day, and then when my husband gets home at 2 or three in the morning, she likes to stay awake until about six or seven. in the end, we are very tired and just collapse into bed and don't get up until around two or three. is there a way i can get her to stay up during the day this early? it's very hard to entertain a one month old. any suggestions are welcome.

I have an 10 week old who just started sleeping through the night, amen! I have been reading a book on sleep habits for babies and children and recommend it highly. It's called "Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child". In the first few months your baby's system is still immature and out of wack. Sleeping will be irregular during this time. They get their sleeping and awake time signals crossed. It's something they have to learn. It is a good time to start working on morning and afternoon naps. The general rule is that a baby should only be awake for two hours at a time and then needs sleep. If you can get your baby to nap better during the day you should see better results at night. Sleep promotes more sleep. Also, we keep the house well lit and noisey during the day and very dark and quiet at night. Doing this helps them get days and nights straight. When feeding at night keep the TV off and the lights down, and the baby should go back to sleep easily. I hope this helps getting the sleep thing down takes a lot of work and patience. I remember being sleep deprived just a month ago and I thought I'd never sleep again. But my son now takes two 2 hours naps a day and sleeps 9 hours at night. Good Luck.
