SLEEP PROBLEMS

ok, I really need some help here. My son who is almost 6 mos. old has not been sleeping very well lately. He is continually flipping onto his stomach and will cry until my husband or I come and put him onto his back. This is happening at 1am, 2am, and so on. Usually, after letting him whine and cry for awhile(we want to see if he can learn to flip back on his own), we will go in and put him on his back. By this time he is usually wide awake and will not go back to sleep because he realizes or thinks he is hungry.
For awhile he was sleeping through the night, but since this has all started he is not sleeping through the night. Even when we give him an 8oz bottle right before bed (last night), it does not make a differnce. I have tried cereal, it also does not help.
We also have to move his crib mattress down this weekend because he has started grabbing onto his Tiny Love mobile and he is also grabbing onto his bumper pads and side of the crib to pull himself up. He is very active!!
Does anyone have some helpful advice for me?
