Hi Vanessa Breast milk is watery looking, it doesn't look the same colour as cow's milk. Babies are far better at getting milk from a breast than any breast pump, so chances are he is getting more than you realise. Is he passing lots of urine? If fluid is coming out, it must be going in the top end. It is normal for weight gains to slow as a baby gets older. For an average sized baby weight gain at this age will often average around 2 to 3 oz on per week. There can be other reasons for a baby to want to constantly breast feed besides hunger. Tiredness and distress being two. Another common reason is if the child frequently falls asleep while breast feeding then it can become a sleep association. The child will then want the breast to help him fall back to sleep when he wakes in the night (which can be anything up to 7 times). Does he fall asleep on the breast? Even if your suppy has decreased, this does not mean you need to give up breast feeding. It is possible to increase suppy and should this fail suppliment breast feeding with formula or other milky products. Rowena
