Hi Sue, We took what should have been a 6 hour road trip when our son was 5 months old. It turned out to be almost an 8 hour road trip! Don't get me wrong, he was pretty good, slept a lot, but did get antsy to get out of his carseat when he would wake up. I would plan on stopping once every hour or so just to stretch, get the baby out of the carseat, feed them and so on. I don't know if you are breastfeeding or bottle feeding. Our son was on formula by them, I had several bottles with formula measured in them just waiting for the water to be added. I brought a jug of water with us so we wouldn't have to use public water at rest stops. Also would be a good idea to have toys on hand. Our son loved the toy bar he had across his car seat. We would hear him playing with it often. Make sure you have a sun screen for your side windows so the sun isn't glaring in your babies eyes on the trip. This has nothing to do with being on the road, but is something we wish we had known when we left! Since our son was on formula, we used tap water at home to mix up his bottles. When we got to our friends house I was almost out of water from home and had just planned on using tap water at their house. Our son refused to take his bottles made with their tap water. The water tasted different and he hated it. I ended up having to buy some bottled water while there and using that, he took it but only after a few tries. So I would suggest that if you use tap water to make bottles, bring lots of water from home or the water you normally use! If you are breastfeeding, you have no worries!
