Hi,
We have recently needed to take long car trips with our son (3.5 hours +) in search of real estate because dh is being transferred. My son is now 7.5 months old but we have done this a number of times starting at about 5 months. I suggest trying to time it to coincide with naptime or bedtime. Although this doesn't always work with your schedule it will make the long trip more pleasurable for all of you. Take his/her favorite toys, blankets, etc to help when they are awake and sit in the backseat if you need to play. My son usually will do great on the ride up there, but if we turn around and drive back after a day or 2 it can be hellish to say the least. He gets sick of being in the car. If you can, try to spend as much time where ever your destination might be instead of driving back right away if your schedule allows. Or just plan on making frequent stops (every hour or 2) and let your baby come out of the carseat for awhile. This usually worked for my son. Good luck!!!
