: I am giving birth next week to a baby boy. His sister is 2 1/2 years old. I am really worried about how she is going to deal with me nursing and generally being with the new baby. Any tips?? I had a baby boy last year, but my older child was much older. She was six and a half years old when I had him. I explained nursing to her well ahead because I knew there would be awkward questions and stares. Your child being much younger will need more understanding and explanation. I took some gifts for my daughter when I went to the hospital so I could give them to her to mark the occasion of her becoming a big sister. Give your daughter some responsibilities such as fetching the baby's diapers etc. so she will feel involved too. And make sure someone at your house spends more time with her, because you will be very busy with the new born. Good luck!
