: While I'm here, I might as well add my 2 cents. I'm doing the same thing right now. The two breeds that have come highly recommended to me are "spaniels" and "labs". The one point that people everywhere keep pounding into my head is that if you have little kids, you need a bigger dog....more climbing, pinching and pulling...smaller dogs overall have a tendancy to be unpredictable (not that bigger ones cant be), snappy and yappy. : : My 1-1/2 and 3-year-old adore dogs, so I am planning on purchasing a puppy for them but have heard many mixed opinions from pet stores and animal hospitals. For those who have a dog and children or had a dog growing up, I would appreciate some information from your experience. I was thinking about a yorkiepoo but am not sure what their temperament is like. : : Thank you.

Thank you for your response. That does make sense that a small dog tolerates less than a big dog which would make them snappy toward children. I thought about getting them a small dog because they could cuddle with it but my concern is their behavior, so the size doesn't matter to me anymore. So far it seems that Labs and Golden retrievers are the best with children.
