Foxtails in puppies ears?

Everyone of you has been so helpful. I appreciate it very much. I have another question if it is not too much bother. I live in the hills and, although we try to keep our yard as clean as possible, there are many foxtails. Does any one know how to check for these without having to constantly go to the vet for these?
