: : Please, I am desperate for help! My 3-year-old has never been a good sleeper. We got into the bad habit of laying with her until she falls asleep (after the usual ritual, books, etc.). Now we want her to go to sleep right after her two books instead of laying with her. Not only does she resist this, she gets out of bed, runs around the room screaming, pounding things, begging us to stay. I can't even make her stay in bed. For four nights it's been this way, and it either ends in her exhausting herself out after being so hysterical, or one of us sitting on her bed until she falls asleep. We are at our wit's end. She does not want us to leave, but we can't stay with her constantly, especially now that we have another one on the way. : I have a 3-year-old girl too and also read her books before she goes to bed. I don't have any problems because since she was very little she knew that if she screamed I was going to just let her cry herself to sleep. It sounds harsh, but you are just going to have to close the door even if you have to hold it closed with something until she cries herself to sleep. After a few days, she knows crying and screaming will not get her anywhere and will learn that after story time is over it is bedtime. You need to do that or she is just going to get worse when she is older. : Hope this helps. I have to agree with above. You said you tried ,but you also said you gave in. And I know it's hard but you musn't give up.leave a nightlight on,maybe buy her a special new stuffed animal that will be her 'pal' for sleeping like a 'big girl'. it is important for you to get your rest right now.Good luck!!
