: Hi Jeanie, I saw that you were a PA. Maybe you can settle a minor disput I am having with my MIL. I clean my 6 mnth old son's ears a few days a week, with a baby q-tip. She says that you should not clean a babies ears. I don't want to hurt him if I'm not supposed to but I don't want things growing out of his ears either. What is the proper care for his ears. And he'll been in the pool more is there any thing I should know.
: Thank you for your help. Welcome to the board

Hi Sue, although your question is addressed to Jeanine, I thought I'd share what my doctor told me. He said not to use q-tips on babies' ears. To clean earwax, he told me to put a few drops of slightly warm Johnson's baby oil in each ear, plug his ears with two large pieces of cotton and remove half an hour later. It doesn't clean a whole lot but atleast it is easier and safer than using q-tips.
