YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!! I have a preemie 3 month old who had open heart surgery a month ago so I've been wanting to watch her every move and be right beside her so I was doing the couch thing also, plus she was in Neonatal Unit for 2 1/2 months and got used to being held (since that's pretty much all you can do with your baby when they are attached to things!) 2 weeks ago I started trying her back in her crib - she would sleep for 1/2 hour at a time - and we have a video monitor and when I watched her I realized that in my arms and on the couch she was not in a position to move around alot, but in the crib, she was flat out on her back and her arms would move and bat herself over the head or get in her eyes and the poor thing woke herself up all the time - well this week one little purchase has changed my whole life!! I went to Toys R US and found this Sleep Aid thing - it basically is two pieces of foam covered in material on each side linked together by a thin piece of velcroed material. Essentially, you put that in the crib and lay the baby in between the two pieces of foam and it keeps them "contained" enough that she isn't flailing around waking herself up. The first two nights, she woke up once for a feeding around 4:00 am and last night slept from midnight till 7:00 am ! I knew she could sleep because when on the couch, she slept soundly through the night - so if your baby is sleeping through the night on the couch then try this containment theory and see if it works - it might be just the key your looking for!! Good luck - I'd love to know if it works - my email is viv@nb.sympatico.ca!!
