Hmmmm, I think I'm going to have to go with Rowena and Steve on this one. Three months might be a little early FOR ME, anyway. Of course I am always worried that there is something else wrong with them and I'm a softie about hearing my kids cry in their crib in the dark. I think it's a personal decision, whatever works for the parent. My CIO didn't start until my son was 11 months old and wouldn't go to sleep or sleep thru the night when he finally did go to sleep. By that point, it wasn't SO BAD, and still to this day, he doesn't make it thru the night every night and he's 20 months.

: My neighbour has an 8 month old baby boy and the other day I went to babysit for them and the baby sleept for a long time while I was there. Although I know it is easier for older babies to take longer naps; I asked her how did she managed to have him sleeping for such long periods of time? She said they let him "cry it out" when he was 3 months old and he quickly learned no one was coming to pick him up and stopped crying. He now sleeps from 6pm-7am without waking up and also has a nap in the afternoon. I think CIO has its benefits and I will sure try it out if anything else works - but don't you think 3 months old is a little early to start CIO? She said babies as young as 3 months know how to manipulate their parents and I am not sure that is true. Any comments on this?
