: : : Hi there! : : Marie, are you sure he is not teething or catching a cold? Also, has he had a hematocrit check? Do you give him vitamins? Vitamins can cause hunger and may encourage him to eat. I would start whole milk in addition to vitamins. He may actually love milk and 2 months is not far away from 1 year. : : Good luck. : As always, thanks Elizabeth for your valuable input. I am not giving my son vitamins. I know I should. And what is a hematocrit check? Oh and yes he is teething. His first top tooth just cut through two days ago. He has had his first three teeth in a span of 2-3 weeks. Also, you could ask your doctor to do a hematocrit test just to be on the safe side. Hope this was helpful.

Thank you Marie. Giving vitamins is a good idea. Af are as the hematocrit, it is used for many things like Kendra said including checking for internal bleeding but for babies many doctors will do a fingerstick hematocrit or hemoglobin test in the office to check for anemia. At about 8 or 9 months, a baby is more vulnerable to anemia due to his maternal iron stores leaving his body and his own body taking over. Here in California where I live it is routine at 8 or 9 months to have it checked. Anemia can cause a lack of appetite but, since you mention he is teething, teething can cause a lack of appetite also and cold-like symptoms, so I think your baby has a lack of appetite due to his teething. I would not be too concerned because I feel it is just the teething but would give him vitamins.
