: My daughter is 4 mos. and she just got over a small cold. Before the cold, she would sleep a lot during the day and still go to bed around 10 and sleep all night. Well now, she's over the cold and she stays up all day (with the exception of a couple of 10 minute naps)and she won't go to bed now until around 1 or so, but she still sleeps through the night. Is this normal? What can I do? I appreciate all advice and comments. Thank you.

Hello,

That's great that she is still sleeping through the despite just 2 10-minute naps but, at this age they need more naps. I would try a schedule. For example: Keep her up for 3 hours in the morning after she has woken up, give lunch, then put her down for a nap; keep her up for another 3 hours, feed again, then another nap; keep her up about 4 or 5 hours, feed again and off to bed. She will then get used to the schedule and will get tired at those times.

I have a 2- and 3-year-old and both slept 14 hours every night with this schedule. A baby who does not sleep well becomes overtired and has sleeping problems. My babies started taking only 1 nap (3 or 4 hours) at 1 year old and now they take just 1 3-hour nap a day and sleep 11 or 12 hours.

Good luck.
