I have one of those little bumper thing that keep our baby on her side. However, she stays on her side just fine without the bumpers (I think they were meant for the first 2-3 weeks). Once she became more alert (and able to turn her head easily) I started letting her sometime sleep on her back. That way she can turn her own head if she throws up. Good luck! ~Teacher
