: : Hi Parents,
: : I have a 2 years old boy who does not know how to munch food. He has no problem eating porridge or any other food that does not require munching/chewing. However, any food that requires munching before swallowing, he is at a lost. Basically he will just spit out the food instead of chewing them and swallowing them.
: : Has anyone faced the same problem before? Or does anyone has any suggestion on how to train him to munch?
: : Thank you very much.
: : Regards,
: : Concerned Mum
: You could try breaking the food up into tiny or smaller peices so that he is not so turned off to the point where he spits the food out. Tiny pieces of food will be much more easier for him to chew and you can also sit with him and show him how you chew your food. Make a little game of it, first Mommy puts a piece of food in her mouth and chews than swollows and then let your son try. Sing a song while doing this, try to make it fun so that he feels no pressure.
: If this doesn't work, try again tomorrow. Eventually, he will get the idea.
: Good luck.
I have a 14 month old who doesn't chew his food either. If I give him anything that needs to be chewed (e.g. a tiny piece of non-pureed apple, or acheerio) he chokes. Little chewing games, like the one descrbed in the last email don't work. I'd appreciate suggestions, or comments, or even just to hear if anybody else is going through a similar thing...
