My daughter was the same way, and I did the same thing your friend did. I put her to sleep in her car seat, but in her crib. Then after a week or so, I let her fall asleep in her carseat, but would move her to her crib once she was really asleep. Then she would learn to wake up in her crib. Then we did the whole she-bang and put her in her crib for sleeping. It was a SSSLLLOOOWWW proccess, but it worked.
