When I moved my little boy from his moses basket into the big cot, I started using one of those baby sleeping bags. It's great as he can't kick off his covers in the night so he stays warm. A good web site for them is www.grobags.com Also when he was born, a friend gave me a 'Cuski' for him (also shown on this web site), which is a little toy which mummy sleeps with on the first night so that it smells of you, and then you put it in with baby so he feels comforted by the smell of mummy.
