Hi Steve Just to give you another possibility to think about. Does Hannah calm quickly once your wife offers her the breast? If she does, I don't think her teeth are causing her as much trouble as you think. Pain wouldn't subside just because a breast was offered. Does she regularly fall asleep on the breast (during the day as well)? If she does, this can become what is commonly referred to as a sleep association. In other words, it is what a baby has learned to associate with falling asleep. It would also explain why Hannah wakes so frequently through the night. A sleep cycle for a baby of this age is 30 minutes to 1 hour. If a baby has learned to depend on something their parent has to provide to help them fall asleep, then they will experience great difficulty falling asleep in any other way and will frequently (but not always) wake between sleep cycles. Sometimes up to 8 or 10 times during the night. They are also likely to have short daytime naps of 30 minutes to 1 hour.

At Hannah's age average sleep in 24 hours would be approx 14.5 hours. If she's not getting close to this figure, her crankiness during the day could simply be overtiredness.
