Well Steve, I know what you are experiencing as I have 2 chronically sick non sleeping kids since birth, sometimes the illnesses are typical kid illnesses, sometimes they're not so typical. One right after another, first one child, then the other, then me, then both, then as soon as we are finished one thing we go right into the next thing. I've had to learn to put my needs aside and try to do the best I can do for my children, no matter how hard it is to do. I try to concentrate on how they must be feeling, not knowing how to express themselves and only needing comfort from mom and dad because they don't feel good. Then I think about how much I love them. That is what keeps me going. The best advice from one parent to another, that I KNOW WILL WORK is to have patience, time and time again, because you and your wife will need it now and forever, it's all about parenting, it goes with the territory. Some day we'll look back and wonder where these times went, and then it wont seem so bad. It's not really that bad, it just takes some adjustment and without question, lifestyle change. If you just cant make it any longer maybe you can hire a sitter or find someone to babysit while you and your wife get some sleep in or out of the house. I assume you've tried shifts by this point in time. One thing I know from experience is that it IS NOT good to get to a point where you feel so exhausted you can not deal with the situation effectively for all parties. Try to get out and away for a day, even if it's to the local motel for a nap. : Hannah (you may remember) was diagnosed with an ear infection this past Monday. The doctor said it was likely related to teething, as the fluid just drains back and pools in the ears. She's been on antibiotics since Monday evening. She's also been on numbing drops intermittantly since then. She did better for the first couple of nights and has been getting worse since. We saw the doctor again today and she said the drainage after an ear infection can sometimes hurt as much as the infection itself. She said usually it clears up in a day or two but sometimes can go on for a week or two. : As a result of the above, my wife and I have been getting about 5 hours of sleep a night for the last few nights. Hannah usually ends up in bed with us being nursed, where none of us sleep well. I'm so afraid of squishing her that I sleep with one eye open. : What the heck do you do with a sick baby? You can't very well enforce sleep upon her with things such as crying it out. : I'm so damned tired.

: I'm so sick of not sleeping. If it's not teething, it's an ear infection, if it's not an ear infection it's a growth spurt. If it's not any of those things it's a baby who just won't freaking sleep.
