Sara Goodness! I don't think I have ever met a mother who was capable of listening to her precious baby cry for 4 hours. Does this man have a heart of stone? A cry it out approach is effective but I would never recommend it for any age. I absolutely disagree that by lovingly responding to a baby's cries, a baby will grow to be insecure. It will be quite the contrary in fact. I hope this answers your question.

It's more important what your inner voice is telling you. Does this advice fit comfortably with your own parenting beliefs. There is no right or wrong way to raising a child. What is most important is that it feels right. If both you and your baby are happy with what you are presently doing (including night time feeds) then I wouldn't change a thing.
