Sometimes I wonder if we're all reading too many books. My mother keeps saying she let me cry it out, she closed the door and didn't go back in. She says she sat outside and cryed with me. It lasted a full 4 days and I never did it again!! I didn't grow up insecure with a feeling of abandonment and I definitly don't remember the trauma of crying for 40 minutes. I'm still as close my parents as ever ! I however, am not as strong. Thousands of kids have been nursed, rocked and walked to sleep and I'm sure all those parents got through it fine and raised independant, self settling sleepers as children and later, adults.

I agree with Marybeth when she says we have to listen to our instincts.
The one thing all this chatter and thinking proves above all else is that we are all so in love with our kids and really do want the very best for them. good luck to everyone and god bless.
