Hi Julia,
Many babies will cry a whining type of cry between sleep cycles. For some babies this type of crying is a way of self settling. Ovetiredness or a change in routine can also result in more frequent wakings. However a distressed or angry cry when baby is fully awake is quite different, and may be a result of discomfort or a call for reassurance.

Julia, may I suggest that you don't beat yourself up with guilt over this, as Thomas is likely to wake less frequently once he adjusts to having his Aunt caring for him while you are at work.
