Hey Nosey MB :), What you say is not always necessarily true. In some cases (such as mine), MSPI kids CAN outgrow the majority of their intollerence by age one. My son can eat cheese, yogurt, etc., however he becomes affected when his TOTAL DIET is milk based, (so he is not totally milk intollerent anymore) therefore they (GI) believe it is safe and you should start over to see if the other intollerences are gone, and, as you know the next choice is soy. (in my case Julian outgrew his soy intollerence completely) Since kids this age are getting most of their diet from table foods and less formula, they usually begin the switch to milk/soy milk at 12 months (unless you are still nursing, and even then sometimes if you're not a full time nurser). Kids over the age of one, start to need lots of extra calcium and their nutritional requirements change...this is where the Neocate 1 comes in....just like Enfamil Next Step, Isomil 2, or Carnation Follow Up...(they all have milk or soy based follow ups) Neocate is still the last resort formula. It is a good formula nutritionally, but it is strictly amino acid based, pre digested....and at some point...usually around age one the GI dr. will want the child to start to use his "gut" (the real term for stomach) to digest proteins, even if it is in little amounts.....so you start over again with the follow ups in order, regular, soy, then nutramagin (although there is no follow up to this one) neocate 1 only if absoultely necessary......... Only one doctors advice (mine), but sounds like Tracy R.'s is on the same track. We all still love you :) Healthy debates are good, remember??????????? Kiss, kiss. : Neocate makes a +1 formula. Lots of kids don't outgrow their food intollerances until 2 - 3 years of age. It's appropriate and good to re-challenge at one year of age, but if he's not reacting well, it's also ok not to push or force it, and to hang in there with Neocate or a similar protein free formula for another 3-6 months and then re-challenge again. : And it's ok to tell your GI that you're not getting good results and you don't feel comfortable trying again for a while. Remember, YOU PAY HER/HIM and YOU ARE THE MOMMA. : Good Luck!

: Tracy, what was your son's diagnosis when you put him on Neocate? Was he Milk Soy Protein Intollerant? If so, and he hasn't outgrown the Milk Protein intollerance, chances are he hasn't outgrown the Soy Protein intollerance either.
