: My son is 5 days old and is a very sleepy nurser. I try everything to keep him awake when he's eating and nothing works. My milk came in and I am so full and I am pumping too but I've got to keep him awake so he can eat more. Any advice.

Hey Sue, congrats on the birth of your baby boy! My little boy was a very sleepy nurser too. Undress him down to the diaper while nursing. If he is a little cold, he will fall asleep less easily. I used to tickle his feet. Also do a few compressions on your breast with your hand, this will release some milk flow into his mouth causing him to start sucking (but don't overdo that because he may choke if he's sleepy and not swallowing). If he still won't stay awake long enough, feed him as frequently as possible to make up for it. Hope that helped.
