1. Elves would visit my house every night beginning Nov30/Dec 1st however you want to look at it. They would leave a homemade calendar on our fridge and for every day we were good, we'd get a smiley face and when we were bad we'd get a frown. Sometimes, if we were very good, we'd get a small toy or some candies. The elves would write us a letter on the first night telling us about them. We'd get other little notes during the month too. The elves stopped coming Dec 23rd since Santa comes on the 24th. We had different Elves every year (some doll makers, clothes makers, train makers, etc) all with different handwriting! It was really neat - even better than Santa I think. 2. We'd get to open 1 package on Christmas Eve - a box with pajamas and slippers. The pajamas were always Christmassy. They were pre-washed so we could wear them that night and wake up looking adorable in our new pjs for our Christmas pictures our parents took of us opening the presents. 3. We'd get a calendar every year. 4. The first snowfall of the year, unless it was a nasty snowstorm, my mom would take us to toys-r-us. 5. So that we wouldn't forget the true meaning of Christmas, we'd all gather around the nativity and sing "happy birthday" to the baby Jesus. 6. My husband's family - they all had stockings that his mom made. For each Christmas, she'd sew a little round bell thing along the bottom. I got my own when I joined the family 5 years ago. It's neat watching the numbers grow. 7. We'd give something to Toys for Tots and/or help at a homeless shelter. We used to sit at home with our thousands of dollars worth of toys. This helped us remember those less fortunate. That's all I can think of right now. I'm planning to use most/all of them now that I have my own family. 8. : I'm interested to hear about holiday traditions that your families have adopted and enjoy carrying out. Doesn't matter if they are religous or ethnic based. My family of origin had very few holiday traditions of their own, and I now have the opportunity to start some with my "new family". : Thanks in advance for your responses and happy holidays.
