I have very strong feelings about amnio testing, so beware. You may not agree with what I say, but i'm sharing MY opinion. I absolutly REFUSED the test. My midwife said I didn't need it anyway, but no way would I do it even if they wanted me to. There is so many false alerts that I have heard of I wouldn't put myself under the stress of doing the test. Not only that, but no way is someone sticking a needle into my stomach near my baby! I have seen it done, heard horror stories, and researched it in depth (not just pregnancy websites, but actual text books for nursing and medical students), and I would not do the test. This is my personal choice. Unless there is reason to do the test, such as something coming up in the blood work (which DOES NOT mean something is wrong with your baby) there really isn't a need to do it, Did your doctor suggest doing the test? What were his reasons? These are the questions you need to ask if you are having any doubts about doing an amnio. My opinions may seem very harsh to some, but I have reasons for strong opinions, I had a friend who had major complications b/c of the amnio, and her doctor admitted the test really wasn't necessary. To make a long story short, please just think about it, and make a decision based on how you feel about it, if YOU want it done. Don't let me or anyone else make up your mind, it's your body and baby, and I hope everything goes well! Best wishes to you for a safe pregnancy! :)
