Lynn, you can have an egg extracted from your ovary, but IVF is extremely expensive compared to IUI. IVF (in-vitro fertilization) involves taking the egg out of the body and fertilizing it outside the body, then injecting the fertilized egg back into the uterus and hoping it will "take". I'm not sure, but I've read anything from three grand to upwards of ten grand for this procedure.
IUI (intra-uterine insemination) is easier (and less costly) because you produce your own egg and just have the sperm injected to hopefully meet with it.
Of course this is only if you've had a tubal ligation. I've never heard of a man having a vasectomy and being able to have sperm withdrawn anyway. If your husband has had a vasectomy, the only possibility is to have a reversal done (which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't).
Hope that helps!
