Have they already provided you with 12 weeks of unpaid leave?
Most employers must provide up to 12 weeks (depending on if they meet the criteria). Visit the site below to see if your company meets the requirements. Usually it's a company that has 50+ employees and you have to have worked at the company for atleast 1,250 hours (an average of 25 hours per week) during the last 12 months. They include bedrest time in your 12 weeks, as well.
Having worked in the legal field, I'm honestly surprised that they would "fire" you while on maternity leave as it would be difficult for them to defend in court--what a strange time to fire someone. They do not have to reserve the same job for you--just one of equal stature. If you are, infact, fired, then I would definitely apply for unemployment. They are required to pay it until you find another position.
