La Leche League International published a TERRIFIC book called "The womanly art of breastfeeding". My copy is from 1983 as i bought it second hand. Check into this organization because they know all there is to know about breastfeeding!!!
They do have a tiny little routine they reccommend for "preparing" your nipples, but it is so minor, its like brushing your towel lightly over them and kind of turning them a couple of times after showering. Its easy and pretty painless.
