Candy~

YIKES! I would do a little checking into when the premiums were dropped and why you were never notified. If it just happened recently then you might still be able to opt for COBRA (even though it's terribly expensive). My mom was a benefits manager of an international company so I always ran crying to her when I had insurance problems. Companies like that make me sick!

You can look into your own insurance, but keep in mind that they usually don't go into effect immediately. When I signed up for my school insurance in October/November, it didn't go into effect until January 1st. If this doesn't look like a good option, your best bet for insurance coverage would be DH getting on a new group plan (as much as I hate to say it). Also, you need to read the fine print on what is considered "pre-existing"--some companies explicitely exclude pregnancy from their list of pre-existing conditions. If pregnancy is considered pre-existing then you will need to list it (there's a possibility they might just go by when your doctor's papers say your 40 weeks started). However, just keep in mind that it will all work out in the end. Even if you go into this without insurance you're only required to pay $10 a month--they cannot report it on your credit report as long as you simply do that.

I know you're scared and terrified over the money. Trust me, this is one gal who I'm sure owes more money than this entire board combined (due to my stupid mistakes). But I've decided that life is too short. All we have is this very moment and you need to rejoice in it--YOU'RE HAVING A BABY! Just think--when you're baby is a teen you can share with them how worried you were over the cost of having them and have surprised you were at how God worked it all out for you.

So, do the best you and dh can to try to get on a policy that will cover you and let God handle the rest. You'll know you did the best you could.

Tight hugs,

~Teacher
