My first birth experience, almost 2 years ago, went something like this;
I felt cramping pain in my back and stomach around 9:00 pm the day I was due. It felt like I had to go to the bathroom - so I tried. The cramping was pretty intense (not at all what I thought contractions would feel like) we called the hospital - the doctor on duty said that it sounded like I was in early labor and to call back when it escalated. I thought, if this is early labor I am going to die!! WE called again about an hour later and she said to come in to get checked. I took my time taking a shower (after all this was my first - I will be in labor for 20 hours - at least!!)and let the water pound on my back and we left for the hospital around 12:45 am. My husband had to pull over on the way because I got sick.
We got to the hospital at 1:00 am through the emergency room (the regular entrance was closed) I distinctly remember everyone looking at me - and feeling like I was exagerating - early labor - right?
We got up to maternity, they checked me and I was 7 cm. The doctor said to give me drugs (YAY!) and I said wait, I have to go to the bathroom - the nurse said NO - call the doctor, she is going to push - my son was born healthy and happy at 1:34 am.
The pushing was nothing compared to the contractions - the afterbirth was really weird feeling - like a huge sponge being pulled out - and then a nurse punched me in the stomach - I was not pleased!!
Natural childbirth - though not my first choice - was so worth the outcome.
Good luck!!!
